NFL Season Opens With Dallas Cowboys’ Win Over New York Giants

The 2012 NFL Season got underway on Wednesday night, with Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys going on the road to the New York Giants and getting a 24-17 victory.

Romo was the star of the game, throwing for three touchdowns, despite getting off to a shaky start in which he almost had an interception returned for a touchdown. But that was really the last of his struggles, as he and the Cowboys offense made big plays in the second half to secure the victory.

So the Cowboys get off to a 1-0 start, puting the Giants into an early hole as the defending Super Bowl champions are one-game behind.

The next games won’t take place until Sunday, with then two games on Monday night.

What’s on the schedule?

Visit our 2012 NFL Week 1 Page for the complete run down, but we will highlight some of the notable matchups for the weekend.

The Green Bay Packers will host the San Francsico 49ers in one of the late wave of afternoon games, putting two of the top NFC favorites on the field. In fact, they are the two teams picked to meet in the NFC championship game.

A bookend match up maybe? Only time will tell.

Also on the schedule in the early slate, Andrew Luck will debut for Indianapolis against Chicago on the road, while Robert Griffin III and Washington will take on New Orleans on the road. The top-two draft picks in April will certainly be well tested in tough environments to open their NFL careers.

Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow and the Jets will host the buffalo Bills at 1 pm, with many fixated on how many snaps Tebow will take in this one.

Peyton Manning will make his debut with the Broncos in prime time on Sunday Night Football at home against Pittsburgh in one of the marquee matchups for the opening weekend.
