Week 12 NFL Power Rankings; Panthers Jump Into Top-Five After Monday Night Win

Carolina PanthersThere are no more undefeated teams in the NFL following the Kansas City Chiefs’ loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday night. The two will rematch in two Sundays so the Chiefs will get a quick opportunity to exact revenge on their field.

Outside of that monster matchup that took place, there were plenty of other games that set the tone for teams this season. As we do every few weeks, we have reformulated our latest NFL power rankings heading into Week 12 of the season.

There will definitely be some changes for this week’s as compared to the last time we did this in October. The gap in between doing these rankings allows for multiple performances to dictate how teams move up and down.

  • 1. Seattle Seahawks

We haven’t put Seattle up in the top position before, but it’s simply well-deserved at this point in the season. Offensively and defensively this is the most complete team in football. They are beginning to run away with the NFC West thanks to the struggles of the San Francisco 49ers. If the Seahawks get home field advantage in the playoffs, and it looks like they are moving that direction, it’s about time to pencil this organization in for a trip to the Super Bowl. At least they’d be prepared for the cold weather environment.

  • 2. Denver Broncos

The Broncos still have some issues, but they played well against Kansas City on Sunday night. Denver’s offense was held in check by a good Chiefs defense, but they still manage to hang 27 points on the night. Defensively for Denver, it was one of their better performances this season. The Broncos are in control of the AFC West and over the next two weeks get the chance to create separations for the closing stretch.

  • 3. New Orleans Saints

The Saints were a team on the rise before suffering an interesting loss against the New York Jets. But they’ve rebounded with some very good performances over the last several weeks. The Saints are a fantastic team at home at 6-0 on the season, but have four of their final six games on the road. This will tell us how ready New Orleans is to challenge for the NFC.

  • 4. Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs definitely had their opportunities to win the game over Denver on the road Sunday night. But they were unable to be successful enough on offense. Jamaal Charles never got going, and Alex Smith was unable to feed off play action. Let’s see how this team regroups after its first loss of the season.

  • 5. Carolina Panthers

Ok Panthers, you get the nod this week based on your last two wins (San Francisco & New England). Those victories were impressive and it finally feels like you are turning a corner. But the trick is to be able to handle the success that is coming your way and to continue to play at a high level week-in and week-out. Let’s see what you got!
