With Houston’s Blowout Loss Are The Texans Still Super Bowl Favorites?

And then there was one.

Coming into the weekend, the Atlanta Falcons and Houston Texans were the last two unbeaten teams in the NFL. The Falcons took care of business early on Sunday afternoon, thanks to a last-second field goal by Matt Bryant.

Houston wasn’t so lucky, they ran into an angry Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.

Rodgers racked up six touchdown passes in a 42-24 beatdown of the last unbeaten in the AFC. Of course, the Packers were probably playing with a bit of desperation, as they came into the game at 2-3 on the season.

But as good as the Texans defense has been this season, they were certainly exposed by Rodgers on Sunday night in front of a national television audience.

Houston came in as the favorites to win the Super Bowl, but should they still be considered in that role after this loss?

Well, Atlanta is 6-0, and other contenders such as the Patriots and 49ers lost as well. Look, teams aren’t going to win all of their games this season. The Falcons will lose eventually too. So there isn’t a big reason for concern in Houston just yet, even though they lost by 20 points.

It was to the 2011 NFL MVP afterall, who was playing basically to stay alive in the NFC North. Green Bay could not afford to fall to 2-4 on the season with the Chicago Bears sitting at 4-1 atop the standings.

Houston is still a prime Super Bowl contender, and still should be considered the favorite in the AFC.

But there are definitely some glaring vulnerabilities that were on full display at home against the Packers. But now they know what can be fixed, and should be able to regroup before another huge game, this time against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 7. It will be very important, as the Texans do not want to go into their Bye week with back-to-back losses.

We will get to know Houston a lot better after their game against the Ravens.
